Missing 10-year-old boy from South LA found

SOUTH LOS ANGELES

Kevin Rodriguez was taken to the LAPD Newton Station to be interviewed by detectives about why he ran away.

Police said Rodriguez was found at a friend's house in good health. He had minor injuries, but authorities would not elaborate on the injuries.

Police had gone door to door to look for any clues that might lead them to the missing boy.

According to police and family members, Rodriguez walked away from his home on the 1500 block of East 22nd Street after he had a fight with his stepmother about not wanting to learn English.

Police were able to locate the boy after a tip from the community.

"He was found through a community member who had heard some people talking in a nearby home. They heard them call him Kevin," said LAPD Sgt. Mitzi Gracco.

Rodriguez's family was notified that he was found. Police are still investigating whether the family who kept the boy knew that he was missing.

Correction: In an earlier version of the story, we stated that the boy was 9. Police now say he is 10.
