The store manager said the woman told them she was shopping for dresses for her daughters.
When she left, workers realized six gowns worth a total of nearly $5,000 were missing from their plastic bags.
They said store security video revealed that she had rolled them up and stuffed them into her purse. Investigators said she even used her children as lookouts.
Deputies tracked down the suspect, 37-year-old Elizabeth Pack, in South Carolina, where she was jailed. She was set to face charges back in Georgia for two counts of theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
