Homicide suspect shot by cops in Ventura

VENTURA, Calif.

Police said Jesus Farias, who was wanted for a homicide in National City, was hiding out at a residence on the 200 block of Pomo Street.

Ventura officials brought in the SWAT team when they went to serve the arrest warrant because they believed Farias was armed.

When they got to the residence Wednesday, they asked the occupants to leave. As the people were leaving, Farias tried to escape through the back. Farias was asked to surrender, but he didn't.

Authorities said that's when officers fired one shot at Farias, because they didn't want him to escape the perimeter. After being shot, Farias went back into the residence.

He eventually came out and was taken to the hospital. His condition is unknown.

The incident remained under investigation.
