The animal was seen running through neighborhoods, even near a major interstate.
"I saw the red hiney and I knew it was a baboon and instant panic," said a concerned resident.
The chase became entertainment for many in the area who posted the baboon sightings on Twitter and Facebook.
The animal was found Saturday at a farm in southern New Jersey.
Officials believe it escaped from Six Flags Great Adventure. The amusement park has 150 baboons.
The runaway baboon was taken back there after being tranquilized.
