Cassini spacecraft captures sound of massive storm on Saturn

July 6, 2011 12:00:00 AM PDT
The Cassini spacecraft orbiting Saturn captured the sound of a giant storm on the ringed planet.

The sound of intense lightning strikes, as many as ten a second, converted from radio noise, were picked up by Cassini.

The storm is eight times the surface area of the planet Earth. It was first discovered last December and is still going strong.

It has now wrapped around the entire planet.
