SoCal murder suspect charged in 1993 Chicago stabbing

CHICAGO

Michael Gargiulo is already being held for a series of other alleged crimes, including the death of actor Ashton Kutcher's former girlfriend.

In 2008, Gargiulo was charged with the 2001 stabbing of Kutcher's ex-girlfriend, 22-year-old Ashley Ellerin.

Kutcher told police he went to pick up Ellerin in the Hollywood Hills for a post-Grammy Awards party in 2001, but she didn't answer the door. He checked a back window and spotted what he thought were red wine stains on the carpet, and then left. Her body was discovered the next day by a friend. Kutcher was never considered a suspect.

Prosecutors in the Chicago case have charged Gargiulo with first-degree murder in the death of 18-year-old Tricia Pacaccio. Pacaccio was stabbed in the chest as she was about to unlock the door to her family's home. Her father found her hours later still clutching her door key.

Authorities say Gargiulo knew Pacaccio and was questioned but never charged. Prosecutors say DNA evidence links the two, and that two men say Gargiulo boasted he'd killed a woman in Chicago.

The suspect also faces charges in another case, the murder of a Monterey Park woman, 32-year-old Maria Bruno.
