Baldwin Park cop hurt in crash after pursuit

BALDWIN PARK, Calif.

The crash happened Saturday morning at the intersection of Merced Avenue and Baldwin Park Boulevard.

Officials said they got a call of a suspicious man in a parked car. When an officer went to investigate, the suspect took off.

Officers pursued the suspect through the streets of Baldwin Park. At some point, the suspect turned his car around and collided head-on with an officer.

The officer suffered several fractures, including a broken femur, according to investigators. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries. The 36-year-old Baldwin Park officer is a two-year veteran with the department.

The suspect was also injured. His condition is unknown.

The suspect will be charged with felony evading, DUI, assault on a police officer and grand theft auto.
