20-month-old girl drowns in Fontana hot tub

FONTANA, Calif.

Family and friends gathered around a backyard pool over the weekend, praying in memory of Aubriana Aguilar. The toddler died Thursday after falling into the hot tub at her home on the 18000 block of Fairview Drive.

The girl's father, Alex Aguilar, said he was inside the home getting ready for work, and his wife was getting their two older children dressed when they noticed Aubriana was missing.

"It only took 15 minutes. I thought she was with her, and she thought she was with me," said Alex Aguilar.

They started searching for her. The father said he looked out a side window and saw his daughter in the backyard. He ran outside and pulled her from the water.

"I laid her down, and my dad just started pushing on her. He just started trying to do CPR," Alex Aguilar said."Neighbors in the back - I don't even know them - but they just jumped over and they tried to help us."

The parents said the door to the backyard is always locked, and they don't know how the little girl got outside.

"I just miss my baby, and I want my baby. It hurts a lot in the night," said the toddler's mother.

Police and emergency crews arrived quickly but could not save the little girl.

"These are tragic events. The depth of sorrow of this family can't be measured. Prevention is the only answer," said Capt. Darrel Crane of the /*San Bernardino County*/ Fire Department.

The Aguilars said they donated some of their daughter's organs to help save the life of another child.
