Hit-run suspect eludes Ojai deputies

OJAI, Calif.

At about 3:40 a.m. Sunday, an Ojai patrol deputy observed the driver of a red mini pickup truck turning south on Montgomery St. without stopping at a stop sign on Oak St.

The deputy attempted to pull the driver over. The truck accelerated away westbound on Aliso St. and a brief pursuit ensued.

The truck's driver attempted a high-speed turn at Oak St., lost control of the vehicle and crashed through a fence, colliding with a parked car in the driveway and a garage door before stopping.

The male driver then fled on foot, according to the Ojai Police Department, and was seen entering an apartment complex at 307 N. Signal St. Sheriff's deputies, with the assistance of a K-9 unit, tracked the driver to an apartment in the complex, but the suspect was not found.

Anyone that may have witnessed the collision or has information concerning the identity of the driver is asked to contact the Ojai Police Department.
