Sprinkles Cupcakes sues Pink Sprinkles over name

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.

The company has filed a federal trademark-infringement lawsuit against a Connecticut-based cupcake store named Pink Sprinkles.

The lawsuit asks a judge to force Pink Sprinkles to change its name, saying the similarity in names is likely to cause confusion in the marketplace.

Texas-based Sprinkles opened its first store in Beverly Hills in 2005 and now operates several more across the nation.

Pink Sprinkles opened in 2009 and calls itself "Fairfield's first cupcake boutique."

The lawsuit, which seeks damages and to make Pink Sprinkles stop using the name, calls the dispute "an exceptional case, involving calculated and willful misconduct."
