Authorities said a man in his 30s driving a Chevrolet Avalanche was trying to pass a woman in a Kia sedan by driving to the right side of her when he hit a cyclist who was in the curb lane, as he was supposed to be.
The incident happened about 6:55 p.m. near 8th and San Francisco streets.
The 62-year-old man did not survive his injuries.
The driver of the Avalanche was in custody, but it was unknown if he would be booked.
