DANA POINT, Calif. --
A whale watching trip off the coast of Orange County got an added surprise on Tuesday when a shark was spotted right next to the boat.
The group of 149 people was about a mile off the coast of North Beach when a 12-foot great white shark edged up to the boat, stealing the spotlight from whales in the area.
The boat was out of Dana Point Harbor for blue whale watching season that runs through October.
