City Council committee approves zoo privatization bids

The Los Angeles Zoo may soon be under the management of a private company.

A Los Angeles City Council committee voted unanimously Thursday to find a contractor that could take over the Los Angeles Zoo's day-to-day operations.

The change could save L.A. nearly $20 million over the next five years and may save the zoo from closure.

But critics fear it might lead to higher ticket prices and less transparency as to how well the animals are treated.
