The redistricting was done by a citizen's commission established by voters- the idea being to make the process politically independent.
The maps re-draw California's state legislative and congressional districts, and could be certified next month.
However, they can be challenged. The state Republican Party is already considering a lawsuit, claiming the commission's decisions were not transparent enough.
