Officer John Newcomb was arrested after crashing a truck that was pulling a Drug Abuse Resistance Education, or D.A.R.E., trailer behind it.
Police said his blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.
Newcomb is a school resource officer, responsible for teaching hundreds of children about the dangers of using alcohol and driving.
He was not on duty at the time.
