ABC7 reporter Leanne Suter discusses injury from BB gun

LOS ANGELES

Suter was struck in the hand. A pellet hit a vein in her thumb. She was taken to a hospital for treatment and is doing OK.

"It was pretty scary but I'm very grateful that it didn't turn out to be something much more serious," Suter said.

Suter and photographer Rich Knoell were doing a live report on the weather near Summit Avenue and the 15 Freeway just after 6 p.m. when the shots were fired.

Suter said she and Knoell didn't know what was going on when the shots started flying.

"We weren't sure if they were bullets or BBs," Suter said. The news van was hit. Fontana police recovered at least two pellets

Officers arrested two boys, ages 16 and 17, for assault with a dangerous weapon. They were later released to their parents.

The case is being forwarded to the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office to see if charges will be pursued.

Leanne Suter has been with ABC7 since 2003.
