Officials with the Los Angeles Police Department said the shooting happened about 4 p.m. near a crowded park at Hazeltine Avenue and Chase Street. No one else was hurt.
The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was standing on the sidewalk when two suspects approached him. One of the suspects shot him multiple times.
The victim was transported to a hospital and was in critical. He is expected to survive.
The suspects may have fled in a vehicle.
One suspect was described as a 25 to 30-year-old Hispanic man.
