Darren Criss, who plays Blaine Anderson on "Glee," has been confirmed to replace Daniel Radcliffe in the Broadway musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."

Criss, 24, will on Jan. 3, 2012 take over the "Harry Potter" star's role of J. Pierrepont Finch, a window washer who aims to climb the ranks at the World Wide Wickets Company in New York City. Criss will appear in the show, which marks his Broadway debut, until January 22, organizers said on Monday.

The musical is based on a satirical self-help book and stars John Larroquette as J.B. Biggley, the president of the firm. Radcliffe, 22, has played Finch since the musical, a revival of a 1960s show, opened in previews in February. He will depart the show on January 1, when his contract is set to end.

On "Glee," one of the FOX network's most successful shows, Criss' character is a leading singer of a rival club who is involved in a relationship with a male member of the main glee club. The San Francisco native has said that as a child, he listened to cast record recordings of musicals such as "Les Miserables" as well as pop songs. When he was older, he began writing and performing music.

It was reported last month that Criss was set to replace the British star, whose role as the boy-turned-teen wizard Harry Potter in the hit fantasy movies has made him one of the most popular actors in the world.

The current revival of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" at Broadway's Al Hirschfeld Theatre has earned more than $22 million at the box office.

The final "Harry Potter" movie, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2," was released last month and has earned more than $1 billion worldwide. The entire film franchise has made more than $7 billion.

Radcliffe's participation in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" marked his Broadway musical debut. He had previously starred in the play "Equus" in New York and in London and had famously stripped down during his performances.

Radcliffe recently filmed the thriller "The Woman In Black," which is set for release in 2012. It marks his first major movie outside of the "Harry Potter" franchise and follows Arthur Kipps, a young lawyer who visits a remote village to deal with the accounts of a recently deceased client. There, he is confronted by the ghost of a scorned woman who is out for revenge.

The film is based on the 1983 book by Susan Hill and has previously been adapted into a TV movie and a play in Britain.

Despite its fiscal success, none of the "Harry Potter" films, which are based on the books by J.K. Rowling, have won an Academy Award. Five of the movies have received a total of nine nominations.

Radcliffe and the rest of the actors have never received an individual Oscar nod. He was also snubbed at this year's Tony Awards, although he did perform at the ceremony. His co-star Larroquette won the prize for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical.

Radcliffe was, however, honored earlier this year for his support for the LGBT community.

The Trevor Project, which leads in suicide prevention efforts among gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youths, gave him the Trevor Hero Award. Larroquette presented the prize to his Broadway co-star at a ceremony in June. Radcliffe has supported the organization and has appeared in public service announcements since 2009. Criss performed at the group's "Trevor LIVE" concert late last year (see video of him on the red carpet).
