'Hairspray' musical filled with all-star cast

The Hollywood Bowl has assembled an all-star cast, and fortunately they are filled with fast learners.

The performers have been working overtime over the past two weeks to get ready for this weekend's run.

The cast features original Broadway cast members Harvey Firestein and Marissa Jaret Winokur.

"I definitely know it, I love it, I love to do it but it's hard," said Winokur. "This time has been the hardest physically. I'm so much older than I was and I have a child who keeps me up all night. So I'm doing it for the working moms, oh my God this is the hardest thing I've ever done."

Carey is just one of several new faces excited to make both their Hairspray and Hollywood Bowl debuts.

"I only have my one life, and I'm in show business," said Carey. "So if I get the chance to do stuff like this that's fun, and I don't want to look back and say 'I wish I would've done something like that' and I pass up the opportunity for some stupid reason. So I was glad to do it."

High School Musical's Corbin Bleu as well as Nick Jonas are part of the star-filled ensemble.

"It's amazing now to be an adult and be able to play these characters that I sort of dreamed about playing when I was a young boy," said Jonas. "To get up here with such an amazing cast is really a blessing."

"To know how many people have stood on that stage, how many incredible talents have been up there performing," said Bleu. "You can feel that. You can feel that energy when you're up on stage."

Darlene Love actually played the role of Motormouth Maybelle for three years on Broadway.

"This is actually my 50th year in show business," said Love. "I just got inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last March. So everything that's going on with me now is just sugar coating, it's wonderful."

Love said she's sung at the Hollywood Bowl twice before as a backup singer for cheer and Dionne Warwick.

Tickets are still available for all three nights.
