Redmond O'Neal charged with heroin possession

LOS ANGELES

His arraignment was arraigned Thursday afternoon. Redmond O'Neal was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He pleaded not guilty to two felony counts.

The 26-year-old was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly failed to stop at a red light in the 600 block of Olympic Boulevard in Santa Monica. Officers found heroin in the vehicle. After searching his apartment, police also found a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun.

O'Neal has a history of substance abuse problems. He completed a drug diversion program last year and was on probation for bringing drugs to the L.A. County Jail in 2009.

He has been jailed without bail since Tuesday. If convicted, he faces up to three years and eight months in prison.
