The officers were standing on the southbound side of the 215 Freeway Friday night near the Barton Road exit when a woman driving by lost control of her SUV, which overturned and slammed into a CHP vehicle.
Officers had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit.
"They heard the vehicle as it was skidding out of control, and by the time they heard the vehicle, it's already out of control coming towards them. So, you have a split second to react, they can count their blessings," said CHP Sgt. Joseph Corney.
The officers were not hurt, but the driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries.
Authorities said she did not have a license. The people involved in the original hit-and-run accident are all expected to be OK.
