Duane Parkison, 42, collided with an SUV Wednesday along Shady Canyon near Quail Hill Parkway in Irvine.
The two people in the SUV were not hurt.
Parkison, a 15-year veteran of the sheriff's department, was assigned to the Rancho Cucamonga station.
He is survived by his wife and their three children.
