The incident happened about 2:34 p.m. at Stewart Avenue and Baldwin Park Boulevard.
Baldwin police say a woman was walking with her boyfriend to church when the 27-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle and hit the woman, a bus bench and a structure.
The woman, whose identity was not immediately released, died at the scene.
The driver fled the scene but officers caught him a block away. They said they believe alcohol was a factor.
The coroner said the victim was 24 years old.
