Legislature approves ban on rental-unit smoking

SACRAMENTO

A bill awaiting /*Gov. Jerry Brown*/'s signature allows landlords to ban smoking at rental properties, including inside apartments.

Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla of Los Angeles, who authored the bill, says the bill gives families more smoke-free options. He says secondhand smoke can travel between units through open windows and doors, shared ventilation systems, and crawl spaces.

His SB332 went to the Brown's desk on Monday after getting approval in the state Senate.
