Ethan Lynch, 15, said he used cod as bait. He knew there was something big at the end of the line, but then someone yelled shark.
"Everybody was all like shocked, and like, 'Oh my god, this is a big fish,' and everybody was freaking out," Lynch said. "I was just like, 'I'm going to bring this fish in.' When it was actually on the boat, I was definitely shocked about the size of the fish."
The shark was a 12-foot, 458-pound blue shark.
Lynch battled the fish for 35 minutes and beat the state record by four pounds.
