Thousands of parents showed up to a school supply giveaway in Compton this weekend. It was part of World Vision's third annual "Back to School Celebration."The group handed out 1,300 backpacks filled with pens, pencils, notebooks and binders.
Organizers attribute the overwhelming turnout to the tight economy and budget cuts. One report says U.S. teachers already spend an average of $356 of their own money on supplies.
