Local Muslims handed out around 500 bags filled with school supplies to the Anaheim community.
Organizers said the giveaway is in keeping with Muslim tradition and beliefs.
It is the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and during this month, Muslims are called upon to give charity to those in need.
Mosque officials said they plan to make the giveaway an annual event.
