A CNN crew found Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi, the convicted Lockerbie bomber, in a coma and near death, according to his family.
He was released from a Scottish prison two years ago, apparently with terminal cancer. He was given a hero's welcome in Libya, then his health seemed to improve.
He appeared at a pro-Gadhafi rally a month ago. His family says there is no doctor to care for him now and he has stopped eating. They said he sometimes slips into a coma with only oxygen and an IV to keep him alive.
As for who ordered the 1988 bombing of Pan Am 103, which killed 270 people, al-Megrahi is now likely to take that secret to his grave.
