Travel bargains through local sharing

LOS ANGELES

Angelique Latimer is a professional singer who recently spent several weeks in Paris, France, a city where hotel rooms can be very expensive. But where Angelique stayed was a bargain.

"It was about $30 a night," said Angelique.

Angelique rented a spare room in the home of a Parisian. She found the bargain through iStopOver.com, a website that connects travelers looking for affordable accommodations while on vacation with homeowners who have spare rooms, apartments, even houses to rent.

"We have 16,000 five-bedroom villas," said iStopOver.com founder and CEO Anthony Lipschitz.

Stephanie Paprosky and her daughter are renting out the guest house in a villa in the Hollywood Hills while on vacation in Los Angeles. It has all the pleasures of a fabulous hotel room, including the private use of the pool and spa.

But what happens if you get to the rental and it's not what you thought it would be? With iStopOver.com, you pay the website a portion of the rent that's put into escrow and then they give you a code.
