Man clings on to getaway car, stops robbery

September 1, 2011 12:00:00 AM PDT
The owner of a western Florida car wash stopped a burglary suspect by jumping onto the getaway vehicle.

Much of the confrontation in Fort Walton, Fla. was caught on surveillance cameras.

Car wash owner Tom Tona saw a man rummaging through his shed, so he stood in front of what he knew was the getaway vehicle.

But the suspect took off running, so Tona hopped on the SUV's hood as the female driver tried to speed away.

"There was a small child in the passenger seat, and the baby was kind of flopping around in the car," described Tona.

The driver tried to fling Tona off the hood but he never let go.

Police eventually arrested both suspects.

Tona was not injured.
