Ventura woman kidnapped from home through bedroom window

VENTURA, Calif.

At about 1:20 a.m. Saturday, Ventura police received a 911 call from the victim's family saying she had been kidnapped by an acquaintance.

Apparently, the suspect, later identified as 48-year-old Marlow Hartson of Oxnard, yanked the screen off from the victim's window, reached into the room and pulled her out. Hartson forced the victim, 22, into his car and drove away from the home, located on the 5400 block of Lafayette Street in Ventura.

After traveling several blocks, the victim was able to escape from Hartson's car and run to safety. She received minor injuries during the incident.

The 911 caller provided a vehicle description to authorities, and the suspect was tracked down and taken into custody nearby.

During the investigation, Hartson was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and was booked at the Ventura County Jail for kidnapping and drug charges.
