Calif. bill blocks using credit reports for most hiring

LOS ANGELES

The measure would block using the checks except when hiring for managers, law enforcement or financial jobs.

Supporters said credit reports are not always accurate and do not give employers any background as to what led to a poor rating.

Critics said the bill will make it harder for employers to hire qualified employees.

The measure now returns to the Assembly for final approval.
