Bong Sook Chavez, 51, is accused of stabbing her sleeping daughter in the neck on July 9, 2010. Quesi Chavez, 10, died eight hours later.
Chavez then stabbed herself in the neck, but her husband managed to stop her from killing herself.
In exchange for her no-contest plea, a count of murder was dismissed, according to the L.A. County District Attorney's Office. Chavez was immediately sentenced to 12 years in state prison after entering her plea.
