Students say an LGBT-focused housing floor will attract more students and make current ones feel comfortable living on campus.
The LGBT residence hall floor is being called a living learning community.
University of Iowa freshman Quentin Hill says how he chooses to live should be a non-issue.
"The main point of the living learning community floor for the LGBT students is to create a safe atmosphere for the students," Hill said. "Let them share their stories on coming out and other day-to-day things that we experience as LGBT students."
School officials are open to the idea and say they plan to put it on the application for next fall.
