Authorities said 21-year-old Lemuel Espinosa crammed nearly five pounds of methamphetamine inside the bags and tried to board a plane to Japan on Wednesday.
Espinosa didn't make it past the X-ray screeners.
According to the case affidavit, Espinosa was planning to sell the drugs to someone in Japan for $6,000. Homeland Security Investigations agents estimate the methamphetamine would have sold on the street in Japan for more than $200,000.
Espinosa was charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
He was being held without bond pending his arraignment, which was scheduled for Oct. 3. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.
