OTRC: Emmys 2011: 'Modern Family' wins Outstanding Comedy Series award

"Modern Family" won the 2011 Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series on Sunday, September 18, marking the show's second win in the category.

The ABC mockumentary-style family series beat nominees "Parks And Recreation," "Glee," "30 Rock," "The Big Bang Theory" and "The Office."

"Modern Family" was nominated for 17 Emmys this year and received 31 nods since its 2009 debut.

On "Modern Family," Ed O'Neill plays Jay Pritchett, the patriarch of an eclectic family. Sofia Vergara plays his younger, second wife. Jesse Tyler Ferguson plays Pritchett's son and he and Eric Stonestreet's character are a homosexual couple raising a Vietnamese baby girl. Julie Bowen plays Pritchett's daughter and Ty Burrell portrays her husband.

Earlier during Sunday's ceremony, Bowen and Burrell won Emmys for their roles. Ferguson, O'Neill and Vergara were also nominated.

Last year, the show won six Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series. "Modern Family" returns for a third season on September 21.

The 2011 Emmy Awards ceremony was held at L.A. Live's Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 18 and was hosted by "Glee" actress Jane Lynch. Check out a full list of nominees and winners.
