Waters told "The Early Show" on CBS that she found the president's comments on Saturday to the Congressional Black Caucus "a bit curious."
Obama told black Americans to stop complaining and join him in the fight for jobs.
Waters said he wouldn't tell other groups to stop complaining.
Monday on CNN, Waters supported the president's goals.
"We take it that he just kind of got off the Teleprompter a little bit and got fired up. We want to help him," said Waters.
Waters added that she is pleased that the president is addressing the issue of unemployment in the African-American community.
