Cathedral case: Schullers paid while church struggled

GARDEN GROVE, Calif.

The creditors committee in a Crystal Cathedral bankruptcy case has filed a lawsuit claiming the Reverend Robert Schuller's family and others got generous salaries and perks while the church struggled financially for nine years.

Besides lavish benefits, the lawsuit says Crystal Cathedral Ministries also borrowed more than $10 million from endowment funds meant to pay for specific items such as maintenance of the 40-acre campus.

Schuller and his family want to be paid at the same time as other creditors.

The creditor committee's bankruptcy exit plan asks that church insiders receive payment after all vendors are paid off.
