100-year-old home catches fire in Echo Park

ECHO PARK, LOS ANGELES

The fire broke out Wednesday night on the first floor of the home located on the 1300 block of Elysian Park Drive. The house was surrounded by trees and brush.

When the flames spread to the attic and basement, two helicopters were called in to help get the flames under control. Fire officials said there were also 100 firefighters on scene, and it took an hour before the blaze was knocked down.

Investigators said the house was badly damaged, but no one was hurt.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
