OC firefighters take heat for attending game

COSTA MESA, Calif.

During match-up in Costa Mesa a little more than two weeks ago, the fire crew out of Irvine parked their hazmat rig in a fire lane blocking direct access to the stadium.

In a letter to the Costa Mesa city manager, Chris Cox, president of the Pop Warner Football & Cheer League, wrote: "Needless to say, it was annoying, and I received several complaints."

Chief among the complaints was that all three firefighters were on duty and in uniform.

OCFA Battalion Chief Kris Concepcion acknowledged the break in its policy against taking a rig out of its coverage area, but said no calls were missed and the crew was available had there been an emergency.

The OCFA says action has been taken against the firefighters, but because it is a personnel issue they cannot disclose what that is.
