Statue of Liberty to get Internet-connected cameras

NEW YORK

Internet-connected cameras will be installed on her torch, allowing viewers to look at New York Harbor, read the tablet in her hands or see visitors on the grounds below.

The cameras, due to be switched on Friday, commemorate the statue's dedication on Oct. 28, 1886.

The day will also be marked by a water flotilla and a reading by actress Sigourney Weaver of the poem by Emma Lazarus that helped bring the statue renown as the "Mother of Exiles."
