Santa Monica approves trial run of leash-free dog beach

SANTA MONICA, LOS ANGELES

In order to officially become a legal, leash-free dog beach, The California State Parks Agency must approve the beach.

The agency owns Santa Monica State Beach and has banned dogs in the past due to concerns over saftey, health and water quality.

California code does not currently allow unleashed dogs on state beaches. Rosie's Dog Beach, which spans three acres in Long Beach, is the only legal free-roam dog beach in Los Angeles County.
