Police in Santa Monica said they have found the driver involved in the hit-and-run accident that left a pedestrian dead.

Police say the victim, identified as a 73-year-old homeless man, was walking westbound on Santa Monica Boulevard and crossed Lincoln Boulevard against a red light. The driver, who had the green light, was heading southbound on Lincoln Boulevard. The driver struck the man, and then fled the scene.

Authorities say they received a phone call from a person who believed their 76-year-old family member was involved in the accident. After reviewing the damage to the man's car, police determined that he was the hit-and-run suspect.

The suspect, a Los Angeles resident, has not been arrested. Authorities say he is cooperating in the investigation.
