Family escapes fire with the help of crying doll

NASHVILLE, Tenn.

In the middle of the night, 17-year-old Christian Deason woke to the cries of her simulated baby.

The doll is part of Deason's child development class at school.

Deason quickly noticed smoke in the house and got everyone out safely, including the doll.

The family's smoke detectors had failed, so without the doll's cry, they may not have woken up in time.

The fire was sparked by an ember in a backyard fire pit.

Deason got an A for taking care of the doll.
