The incident happened last Saturday morning in the 1000 block of East Hyde Park Boulevard.
The man was described as 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 150 to 165 pounds. He has short black hair with a medium-dark complexion.
The victim said the man had distinctive "tight eyes" and a full upper lip.
He somehow gained entry to the woman's home and then her bedroom.
She was able to fight off the assault despite getting beat up. The man got away with her purse.
