Mountain High resort opens to eager riders

WRIGHTWOOD, SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY

The slopes officially opened for the season Sunday at Mountain High.

Some people just couldn't wait to be among the first to ride the slopes at the Wrightwood resort.

"I got the text alert and I got the email," said snowboarder Cole Murray. "He called me, my friend, like eight times because I was asleep. I was like, 'Oh, Mountain High opened. I know it.'"

Friday's snowfall added to the snow they had already been making. The resort has a 6 to 15 inch base to cover some runs and the terrain-park features.

"For the past week we've been checking every day hoping that it would come on, so we're finally here," said snowboarder Michael Sifter.

Bear Mountain and Snow Summit, both in Big Bear Lake, received 4 to 6 inches of snow from the storm and they hope to open early next week.

To the delight of some, there's a little more snow in the forecast.
