Spectacular eruption from Africa's most active volcano

GOMA, Africa

Walls of bright orange smoke, ash and lava shot up into the night sky in Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Lava continues to flow away from populated areas of the national park and so far pose no threat to animals or humans.

Nyamuragira, which erupts about every two years, sits northwest of another active volcano in the park.

Since 1882, Nyamuragira has erupted more than 40 times, but fatalities are rare.
