Mother arrested in Oxnard infant's death

OXNARD, Calif.

Oxnard police detectives were summoned to the Ventura County Medical Center Wednesday, Nov. 23, to investigate an infant with a head injury that required emergency surgery.

The infant had a large frontal brain bleed and hemorrhaging of his eyes, according to police.

After surgery, the baby was airlifted to Los Angeles Children's Hospital for further treatment, according to police.

The baby died in the hospital on Saturday from his injuries.

Detectives arrested the boy's mother, 31-year-old Josefina Hernandez, on Sunday. Hernandez was booked at the Ventura County Jail for causing injury to a child under 8 resulting in death, and held on $500,000 bail.
