California State University administrators said they will have to deny admission to as many as 20,000 qualified potential new students.

Due to budget cuts, university officials said keeping up with the record amount of applicants is difficult.

More than 250,000 new students submitted applications to multiple CSU campuses between October 1 and November 30. This marks the third consecutive year of a record number of applicants to the CSU system.
