OTRC: Chris Rene says he'd use 'The X Factor' prize money to create rehab center

Chris Rene talked to OnTheRedCarpet.com's Rachel Smith before the Thursday December 15 premiere of 'The X Factor.' The finale airs on Wednesday, December 21 at 8 p.m. ET. (OTRC)

Chris Rene says if he wins "The X Factor" he'll take the $5 million prize money and use it to create a rehab center for individuals like himself.

Rene, 28, is one of the final three contestants on Simon Cowell's talent show "The X Factor." The hip-hop performer is a recovering drug and alcohol addict, who found work in his hometown as a trash collector. The rising star already has big plans for the prize money that involves helping others, as well as himself.

"If I won the $5 million, first thing I'd do would, obviously...I'd give myself a car and a condo," Rene told OnTheRedCarpet host Rachel Smith before the premiere of the December 15 show. "Stability, have a place where I can work and take care of my kid, and do my thing."

"Basically, the main first thing...to be, invest in a rehab," Rene added. "A place where people can go, people like me, people with certain addictions. Give them resources and a place where they can find themselves again and to decide if they want to change their life. I'd like to give them a place where they could do that."

While the Santa Cruz native faces some tough competition, he says he's really worried about one contestant in particular - Melanie Amaro.

"She's badass," Rene added. "You know what I mean? That's it. There you go."

On the first part of the show's season 1 finale, which airs on FOX on Wednesday, December 21 at 8 p.m. ET, Rene faces off against Amaro and the other remaining finalist, rocker Josh Krajcik.

The three will compete for a prize of $5 million and a recording contract - the most valuable prize offered in a singing contest series. The winner will be announced on Thursday, December 22. Justin BieberTeen pop star Justin Bieber said on his Twitter page that he plans to appear on the finale.

The highly anticipated show premiered on September 21 to 12.4 million viewers and has been renewed for a second season.
